Summer at the outlet Drying Shed Pastel Painting of Summer Blooming Flowers and Brown Barn Bright Vivid Colors Painted En Plein Air

outlet This pastel painting was done in the summer of 2020. It was painted on location at a business close to my home called The Drying Shed. They grow and dry plants on their farm along with other crops like strawberries.

I've added photo references that I took on the location that day so that you have a better idea of what I was seeing.

I belong to a group of painters called the Mountain Valley Plein Air group. We gather at various local places on Tuesdays during the temperate weather months. At the end of the season, we display and sell the work we created in a barn on one of our member's property.

The scene shown in this painting drew me in because of the variety of plants, bushes, and trees that were in bloom then. The pink perennials that my mother called "naked ladies", the Mimosa trees, petunias, coleus, begonias, and roses were all making Mother Nature look pretty good that day. It was hard to stay focused as there was so much to look at and organize into a painting.

I hope that as you view this piece you feel the warmth of a summer's day and the bright beauty that we experience that time of year.
