Great addition to your collection
Franciscan Apple Earthenware was made from 1940 to 1984 in the USA; primarily in California. It was one of the most popular dinner ware patterns in the 1940's and 1950's. After 1984, the pattern was then made in England, Portugal and later in China. Those pieces made in California/USA appear to be the most sought-after pieces by collectors. Those made in California can be identified by the stamp usually found on the bottom of each item. The stamp helps identify what year each item was produced.
Each individual piece is hand crafted using molds, firing, hand painting and glazing. As a result, each piece is unique as to the craftsmanship of each worker. In the older items one can expect variances as to coloration and craftsmanship. Expect some anomalies in some of the older pieces. These add to the character of the piece and shouldn't distract from the quality of the item.
