Nicho: A nicho is an object of Latin American folk art. Nichos are made from mixed media and traditionally combine elements from Roman Catholicism, mestizo spirituality, and popular culture. Nichos are perfect for those special photographs or treasures that you want to honor or remember. They are often hung in homes to pay homage to ancestors or memories.

I call these my Memory Nichos and encourage you to place a candle, photo, small object or other momentos in the niche to remind you of a loved one or a outlet fun memory. (ie: sand in bottle for fun time at the beach, doggie tag from your best buddy, shells from a trip, etc.) This nicho comes with a small bottle of sand.

This rustic pottery nicho is made by hand with clay. I never use any patterns or molds with my pottery - each piece is individually crafted one by one with clay, painted with ceramic glazes, then fired, several times, to achieve the look I wish to create.

This nicho has a time-worn feel with a lot of added texture and is embellished with antique wood stamps.

We are surrounded by mass market products. Inexpensive and easily replicated, they appear in all parts of the world. Quite often, we struggle to find handmade objects, and when we do, we are rewarded by the personal touch they add. They transform our utilitarian surroundings and make our spaces feel more like us, more 'home'. For me, art is an adventure that never ends. Inspired by my love for folk art, I create handmade ceramics that echo the rustic, eccentric expression - each with a personality of its own. Every one-of-a-kind piece starts with a simple idea, be it a sketch or a quotation, which I use to inspire the shape of the clay. I then glaze the pottery by hand and fire it in an electric kiln. The intricate patterns result from imprints of antique and other handmade objects.
