This is an authentic and original illustration titled, “Abstract Spring Flora and Fauna,” part three. You are viewing the continuum of a current series the artist (myself) has been working on this month. Early spring provides an abundance of visually stimulating sightings and opportunities to produce artistic recreations. If your reading this for the first time and have not seen my previous work, you will learn that for decades, I've been an outdoor enthusiast and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. Mother Nature is something that always inspires much of my work and longtime career in mental health, recreational
therapy, dementia care and psychotherapy. Many recently bloomed wild flowers and sightings of local Bethesda, Maryland species have a shorter lifespan in comparison to others, so with that in mind, I decided to take full advantage of the beautiful scenery and photograph subjects of interest. This particular yellow wild flower was healthy, spread out over multiple branches, backed by taller tree limbs and a very clear blue sky. When carefully studying the painting, you will notice there are several trees hovering over multiple abstract elements intentionally painted in thicker texture and shinier iridescent acrylic paint. When studying my painting, you may discover there are occasional sporadic objects on the interior, that may appear random. These very same distinguished elements are not necessarily features that can be identified as objects from nature. To better guide your attention on the specifics, inside one of the tree barks to the lower right is an oval shaped golden, silver and green feature. With intent to maintain the “Abstract,” theme in this series, I electively sketched these tiny oval designs within to promote a more educational review of subject source. Therefore, you are not viewing a simple painting of wild yellow flowers, but rather more details within that ultimately enhance the entire illustration consistent with the previous two of this series. Obviously the difference between this in comparison to the previous two is the flower species is yellow instead of pink and red. Complimenting the image to how it's seen in “real time,” while simultaneously maintaining the abstract theme and depth perception accuracy, I sketched exaggerated features. The large yellow flower is the dominant feature centered and surrounded by the colorful foliage, branches, grass patches, soils, trees, and skyline. Phase one was the initial graphite sketch. On quality mixed media, I sketched the centralized flower first and foremost prior to the other elements within. Phase two was the infusion of colored pencil. With yellow, green, brown, black, blue, gold, silver, beige, and tan, I colored in over phase one. As always, this phase always helps visually distinguish and visually guide my focus on the separation of each feature. If your learning about my work for the first time, and provide yourself time to review my collection, you will understand it's always important outlet to carefully enhance the varied features within. Phase three was the application of acrylic paint. With the same colors used as in phase two and fine brushes I blended and shaded all the textures desired ultimately promoting the best recreation of the subject. The obvious shimmer and almost glistening colors are purposefully painted throughout. I wanted the illustration to provide a sense of welcoming of the natural beauty and introduction of early spring appreciated by many in the community. Upon completion I sprayed it with clear acrylic sealant to prevent any damage or “bleeding of the colors.” The authentic and original illustration is available for purchase in print. This would make for an ideal housewarming gift or simply be a nice addition to an existing collection. Please enjoy. Jessica Ahmadi
