What a beautiful gem of Edwardian fashion in warm gold and garnet.

A circa 1906 tailored ladies jacket, which no doubt originally included a matching skirt.

The waist front (bodice) is made from a gorgeous iridescent taffeta, with an oblong dobby pattern in garnet. The accents and back panel are of garnet colored silk.

Solid bands of pleated garnet silk extend from the underarm side seam across the front to the vertical pleats. (Photo 7)

The waist has fan pleating that starts at the center front and ends in gathers at the shoulders. 25 hooks and eyes close the front. The sleeves are very full, as was the style beginning in about 1905.

(Shorter sleeves started becoming popular in about 1906. Those were worn with elbow length gloves or a long straight under-sleeve.)

Theses sleeves were referred to as Gigot, Chatelaine, Marquis, and Leg ‘O Mutton (when accompanied by the long narrow portion from elbow to wrist)

CONDITION:
The lovely waist is in Good condition. It does have some issues to be aware of:
The band collar is soiled inside

The edges are unfinished, but are perfectly drawn up in gathers. (Possibly preparing for a later update?)

The red silk accents on the bodice have begun to break down.
