This beautiful prayer bowl is created by a Huichol Native artist that is part of a fair trade group in Mexico. This beautiful prayer bowl, or ‘jicara', is created using the bottom of a gourd which forms a bowl. It contains a ceremonial candle in green and gold plated beads with an Eye of God in the center. There are eagle heads, lizard heads and Peyote on either side and below the candle. This bowl will amaze!
Prayer bowls have traditionally been used in Huichol ceremonies and hold offerings such as corn or deer hair. Here they hold the artist's visions in beads. The sacred symbols in this piece are a candle, representing the sacred gifts of the sun and fire gods; eagle, representing the goddess of all living things; peyote, called ‘jicuri', is used in ceremonies as sacred medicine, allowing connection with the spirit world, deities and ancestors and lizard and Eye of God, which protect humans from evil.
