Beautiful set of 3 mid century modern Samarkand mini stoneware casserole dishes by Denby. Designed by Gill Pemberton, this design was originally known as Arabesque and was manufactured in Langley, England between 1964-1981. The pattern features a geometric, modernist-like design with hand painted rust and gold circles on a rich dark brown background with matte finish. There are square shaped knobs/handles on either side of the dish outlet and the lids have holes in the center top to allow for steam to escape.
Each measures 3 1/4"tall (without lid), 4 1/4 tall (including lid) x 4 1/2" in diameter (without handles), 5 1/2" in diameter (including handles). They each have a 12oz capacity.
All are in excellent condition without chips, cracks or scratches. Painted designs show no signs of ware. Interiors are clean, without stains. Bottoms are all stamped with "Denby made in England" One is in white, other 2 are in black. Stamps are smeared and faded .(pictured in photos)
