10 3/8" Exotic Bird Plate by Weimar Weimler • Vintage Colorful Handpainted Flowering Branch Butterflies outlet • Cobalt Blue Gold Rim • Made in GDR
Gorgeous bone china collector plate with exotic bird by Weimar Weimler Porzellan of East Germany. Center scene is hand-painted with a brightly colored scissor-tailed bird in red, green, blue and yellow perched upon a flowering branch with three delicate butterflies. The outer band is cobalt blue with generous gold trim and brushed gold accents highlighting the scalloped edge.
The Weimar Porzellan company dates back to its inception as C&E Carstens Porcelain Factory 1790. The factory is perhaps best known for crafting fine china for Catherine the Great of Russia. After WWII the firm was nationalized and renamed VEB (Volkseigener Betrieb) Porzellanwerk, aka Weimer Porzellan. The green "Weimar GDR" mark on this piece was in use from 1949-1980. A second oval mark with a blue castle and "PGH" and "handgemalt" (handmade) remains a mystery.
This would be a great quality historical plate for decoration or display!
