This is a hand-crafted piece made by yours truly, in my studio in Venice Beach, California. The photo was taken back in 2012 by my wife and artistic soul partner in crime, Julie Bayer Salzman. She was out walking the dogs one evening along the boardwalk in Santa Monica, was captivated by the crispness of the twilight, took out her iPhone and snapped a photo. It is mounted on salvaged tile, which is then mounted onto salvaged and refinished wood. The nails are from my grandfather's supply, and are perfectly old and rusty, complementing the piece's authenticity.
The hand-bent nails in the shelf can act as key holder, or you can hang whatever small object or decoration you see fit. The small shelf can also be used to display small objects, rocks, shells, sculptures, whatever you think works best!
Each one of our pieces is crafted with time and love. I use a process which is organic and imprecise, so every piece has its own unique personality. Many of these photo transfers and mounts have flaws and imperfections, which give a kind of wabi-sabi feel to them. Personally, I dig this kind of thing- stuff that feels old and warm, imbued with age and history. Parts of the work are naturally patinaed by age, while others have gone through an accelerated aging process that I developed, after much experimentation.
In the lower right corner is our signature stamp for Wavecrest Films. Each stamp is unique, raw, and imperfect in its own way.
We do this because we love it, and hope you do too. Please send us a pic of how you decide to use it!
Thanks,
Josh & Julie
