I can not pass up a needlepoint or finished doily at a yard or estate sale. I know from personal experience how much work someone put into creating this piece of art and to think that circumstance would cause it to potentially never see the light of day again is too much for me to bear. This truly inspires me to create these lovely totes, I let each piece guide me into selecting just the right complimentary trims and fabrics. What was once old is now new and ready to be admired again!
The artwork on this tote is embroidered and outlet depicts a farmhouse or maybe even a schoolhouse with some trees in the background. I found this piece in a thrift store in Santa Cruz on a weekend getaway, the person who made it never got around to framing it.
The tote is nicely sized and measures roughly 23 1/2" wide x 19" tall with a 5" gusset. The should straps are 24" in length and comfortably 1-1/2' wide.
A neutral burlap fabric makes up the body of the tote. The straps are made out of repurposed beaded macramé dress belts tie in a natural cotton cording. The tote is fully lined with a rich red cotton fabric and has a small denim pocket to keep track of small items.
I have of course made a few for myself and I use mine at the farmers market and of course when I am perusing flea markets, I have also found the size to be useful for going to the beach or park. It would make a good artists tote as well as it would easily fit an easel and canvases or sketchbooks! Many uses I am sure. How will you use yours?
