Product code: Late 1800s- (Late 19th Century) Treen Butter outlet Mould from Wood

Late 1800s - A antique wooden 19th century butter mould. This great piece of Treen is from France and was found in Provence. It has a single rose on the stem as an emblem that would be pressed into the butter. There are some signs of old woodworm, but relatively minor for treen and fortunately are no longer active.

The wooden carving of a rose is quite a good carving and a fair amount of intricate detail. We do see these types of mould at the antique markets but often do not buy them because the carvings are poor, the quality of this carving was too good to pass up :)

This butter mould has the traditional clamps and screws fitting it together to open and close. The base wood is made of a slightly different wood, likely fruitwood, from the clamping elements of outlet the mould.
