Antique Etruria Wedgwood Flow Blue Plate outlet Old English 12-Month Series 'May' 10 1/2" Diameter

outlet A lovely charming antique flow blue plate manufactured by Wedgwood potteries in Stoke-on-the Trent, Staffordshire, England. The ceramic factory was opened by Josiah Wedgwood in 1769, and was in business for one hundred and eighty years. This delightful plate is part of the 'Old English 12-Month Series' dating around 1879. The plate is marked the month of 'May', depicting a mother and her daughter picking flowers from a tree. Flow blue trivet tiles were also manufactured depicting the 12 Month Series as well 'A Midsummer Night's Dream Series'.

The illustrations were drawn by artist, Helen Jane Arundel Miles, who studied at the South Kensington School of Art, where for over twenty-years exhibited her work. She also illustrated children's books such as 'Outline Pictures for Little Painters which featured, '32 boldly drawn outlines for children to color'. The pictures were 'printed in sepia on a tinted crayon paper specially made to take colors'. Another of her books was entitled, 'From Do-Nothing Hall To Happy -Day House'.

This rare collectible plate features a deep rich warm cobalt blue and white transfer design with a flower border and showcases the Wedgwood Etruria, marks on the back. Etruria is the name Josiah Wedgwood for Stoke-on-the Trent, Staffordshire. The overall condition is good without cracks or chips and measures; 10 1/4" in diameter.
