outlet This is a portrait of 'Owlix', a great horned owl that my wife looked after at a raptor rehab center.
Every morning she would feed the birds their allotted rations. This very large, impressive looking bird, would sit patiently, till Mary tossed him his portion, which he, in turn, would toss above his head, and down with a gulp.
His gaze commands respect! Great for the office!
From my original clay sculpture, I made a mold. Into this mold , I cast hydrostone cement. When the casting is partially cured, I carefully inspect, resculpt if necessary, and finally paint by hand with with washes of color on the damp surface. For this reason each is a unique work of art, in a painted style similar to fresco.
Signed and dated on the back.
For an outdoor or back splash installation, please check out my concrete editions of this piece, also on my etsy site.
There are hooks on the back, to hang up the sculpture like a picture.
10x4 inches 25x10 cm Cast hydrostone
