Vintag Apple Coral Beads 1980, Vintage German Red Banded Glass Beads, Handmade Oxidized Sterling Silver Ear Wires, Handmade Oxidized Copper Hoops,Handmade Oxidized Copper Head Pins
Paprika red apple coral beads in a substantial 15mm size ( approximately 5/8" ) hang within handmade oxidized copper hoops which are approximately 1" in diameter ).
The coral beads have been topped with vintage German glass beads from the 1950s which are in the exact same shade of red and brown as the coral beads!
◉ As a point of interest : The German glass bead industry began in 1948 when German glass makers were evicted from Czechoslovakia because of their German surnames. Of the two thousand or so workers and owners evicted- only about 2 or 3 were still making hand pressed glass in the 70's.
All the vintage German glass beads that I use in my work are from this earliest time period ( the 1950s ) and not the 1970s and later.
Total length of these earrings is approximately 2" and they've been finished on handmade oxidized sterling silver french ear wires. Oxidized copper corrugated bead caps have also been added for definition.
These beautiful coral beads have been lacquered for protection and shine .
Genuine apple coral is a natural sponge coral that has been heat treated to stabilize the color.

►We were outlet on a buying trip in the Philippines in 1985 and were fortunate to be able to acquire a few " apple coral" beads! Since coral collection and mining was banned worldwide in 1992, it is very difficult to find such large vintage beads as these !
The color is unbelievable on genuine apple coral, ranging from light yellow to dark orange with some brown veining and many people have never seen real apple coral.
Genuine apple coral is a natural sponge coral that has been heat treated to stabilize the color.
Many people have also never seen real tiger coral, because it is so rare these days. In fact, the "tiger coral" seen today is usually painted limestone so be sure of what you are buying!
