Folk Art Equestrian Box, Old Wood Box, Great Vintage Folk Art outlet Salvage, Re-Purpose as Key Holder or Mail Organizer

Vintage hand made and hand painted box with charming equestrian decoration. This is a fine example of "folk art", and it has a sense of practicality, functionality, and humility which is very appealing. It's quite hard to date folk art, but I think this piece is from roughly the 1980s to 1990s, possibly earlier. The box is hand made of simple wood that has been butt-joined, and it has been shaped and assembled by hand. All the joinery is tight and secure, and the box is in square. The painting on the lid features an English saddle, saddle blanket, riding boots, and some hay. The box is signed "Baldwin", which I think could be Nancy Baldwin of northeast Pennsylvania. Nancy Baldwin was first and foremost a painter of animal portraits, but she also decorated English trunks and small boxes like this one. The box measures about 6 1/2" wide by 4 5/8" deep by 4 1/2" high. The inside opening is about 5 1/4" wide by by 3 1/2" deep by 2 outlet 7/8" high to the top of the side walls. The box is overall in quite good condition, with the rope "handle" on the right side somewhat crudely attached with overflowing glue, and it's mate on the left side is missing. Otherwise the box shows very little wear and tear and no dings and dents. It weighs just under 1 pound. In good condition.
