Antique suppository mold/Vaginal pessary mould/Apothecary mold/Gynaecological outlet or medical collectible/Brass mould for suppositories

An unusual suppository or vaginal pessary mold/mould. Fabulous, C19th heavy cast brass apothecary's mold for making a dozen suppositories. Marked 3Gr and 18 (which corresponds with the diameter of the mold) The mold separates into two parts to unmold the suppositories. The two pieces are held together with robust, articulated screws with knurled ends. When unscrewed these drop down to the sides, out of the way, but still attached.

It is in good, original condition with signs of verdigris and tarnish. It could be polished up if desired.

A terrific purchase for a collector of medical or pharmaceutical items. Great paperweight for a medic!

The benefits of vaginal pessaries or suppositories are that they quickly introduce drugs into the body as they dissolve. A friend of mine with a sense of humour calls them innuendos....
