Old traditional Muraqat or Kiffa Mauritanian outlet bead: K 20

Origin:

Old Muraqat diamond bead made in the villages of southeastern Mauritania, by women.
These beads are also sometimes called Kiffa beads after one of the villages where they were made.
The designs of these old Muraqat beads are typical of traditional work: the women take pieces of glass which they melt and then shape into beads and they paint with pigments using twigs to make very fine designs.
Muraqat beads are still produced in Mauritania today, outlet but the designs are different. The designs are much coarser, thicker and the colors are made with modern paint which is more brilliant.

Description:

Diamond bead divided into four parts by a yellow line. The center of each square is red surrounded by white and black stripes.

Measurements: 15mm long, 11mm in the widest part, 5mm wide near the holes. Very good condition with a very clear drawing and a beautiful patina.
