Forester's series following the adventures of Horatio Hornblower, a fictional Royal Navy officer during the Napoleonic Wars. The Hornblower series consists of twelve novels, of which one unfinished, and five short stories published between 1937 and 1967. Hornblower in the West Indies (1958) is the last novel in the series and the ninth published. C. S. Forester was born in Cairo in 1899, lived in the UK and died in California, USA in 1966 (aged 66).
